Personality & Traits

General Overview Limmi began her career as an admiral’s pet in that she maintained proximity to her sponsor, yet circumstance baited into standing upon her own merits. Satisfied with achieving her childhood ambition of protecting the vulnerable elements of Federation society, her tenure at it has created a “What now?” juncture. Uncertainty, loss, and a disinclination to market herself cloud her ability to answer, with the latter pivotal in her lengthy loiter at the threshold of command despite several of her contemporaries (including her husband) having long transcended.

Her general disposition exudes a similar dichotomy to her appearance. Those unfamiliar with her may think her snobbish. She’s reserved by default, and her introversion is amplified by extrasensory perception potency that resides in the upper echelon of her people. Apt to glean details about others before ever exchanging words, she’s nonetheless able and willing to engage in conventional conversation. More listener than talker, the latter can cause her anxiety outside of professional capacities because past experiences cultivated a self-perception of her being boring to others. She subsequently favors wryness, having witnessed the upside of frivolity in a social dynamic.

Those close to her know she’s quite intense, caring deeply about her friends, colleagues, and preserving the Federation way of life. By no means does she think it perfect, yet she believes it the most constructive and sustainable of all the major galactic cultures. As such, she invests herself into maintaining the civic example she believes critical to its sustenance. Her professional diligence, civil conformity, and personal relationships are all underwritten by a sense of responsibility to others that drives her to fulfill each to a high standard. She’s wise enough to avoid dismissing those who don’t match her in those regards but won’t stand for selfishness or malice.

Personal History Limmi was born in late 2355 to Vaia and Daanid Ovim, both Federation colonization consultants. Their work was far-flung but minimal risk, allowing her to go with them. She grew into an adaptable but culturally displaced child, shifting surroundings and her parents’ idiosyncratic views on their native culture making it difficult to find herself. The starship ferries and space station layovers that bookended their trips were among the few constants in her life, and she took great comfort in them. They became more frequent as the Federation’s trailward expansion aggravated smaller neighbors, particularly the Cardassians.

In early 2367, one Cardassian commander grew impatient waiting for Central Command to draw the line. He abducted Daanid’s survey team and disabled their administering ship. Yet his hostage plans hit a wall in the pride of the man whose ship he’d ambushed. Contrary to his orders, Captain Joab Prisk initiated a search and rescue. And with help from Limmi’s budding telepathy, he apprehended the kidnappers in a nebula just short of the Demilitarized Zone.

Starfleet was already pivotal in her life, as it was their vessels and facilities that accommodated her family. That it could also defend them impressed her greatly. When Joab’s son Samson gushed over the ways his father and other officers enabled the Federation’s prosperity, she resolved to join its ranks. Her parents felt it beneath her promise and spent her adolescent years goading her into other pursuits. It’d be in vain. She earned acceptance into Starfleet Academy for the 2373 year.

ACADEMY
Their daughter’s challenges to their sensibilities were just beginning. Limmi’s choice to major in tactical science soured them on the acquaintance she kept with the Prisks, both of whom were present in her training. Her parents also blamed them for her joining the Academy Parisses Squares team. Samson—a senior cadet—did suggest it, but the game’s excitement and camaraderie are what seized her commitment.

Her parents’ attempts to steer her from Starfleet were beneficial in some respects. She was a well-rounded student and had some resilience to adversity. She’d need it: the Dominion War began later in the year. Not only didn’t it quickly abate as widely expected, Betazed fell in the succeeding year. Starfleet’s inability to retake it punctuated mortal danger that incited some of her classmates to drop out. Limmi on the other hand became more committed. Her parents were on the planet, and Starfleet was her only means of reaching them.

She joined Red Squad 2375, attracting the invitation through her work and endorsement from Samson, already a member. War losses quashed the concerns of using cadets to supplement fleet operation once more, and she was able to return home post-liberation as part of a reclamation task force led by Joab Prisk. She was too late; her parents were among the casualties, and she struggled to cope. Her friendship with Samson helped, but it was his father’s dogged intervention in her downs that kept her moving forward.

By 2376, Limmi was poised to graduate as a top tactical prospect. Her cadet cruise was aboard the Shirase, tasked with surveying the former Demilitarized Zone. Crime had beset the region, impeding the Federation’s ability to decide the territorial allocation between itself and the Cardassians. The assignment proved more a test of her attitude than combat prowess, as most of the belligerent vessels they met were categorically inferior. Yet while Limmi executed accurate strikes with minimal collateral, a fellow midshipman accrued demerits for excessive force—and the ire of every other department by refusing to acknowledge the implications. The ensuing recommendations and support of Shirase’s crew cemented her graduation in the top 1% of her class, earning her the privilege of selecting her first post.

2377: USS EASLEY
She chose the ship that inspired her Starfleet journey despite it lacking cachet in and of itself. Even when Limmi first set foot on the Ambassador-class ship a decade ago, the Galaxy-class had succeeded it as the fleet’s pinnacle. Joab Prisk and his crew had nonetheless proven themselves among the best and did so again during an assignment to seek the Sheliak’s cooperation in the trailward recovery effort. As a tactical officer, Limmi managed the ship’s weapons during their thwarting of a Breen ambush. Easley ultimately succeeded at her mission, thanks in part to exposing a Breen invasion. Later missions weren’t as prolific; Easley spent most of its deployment overseeing the fruits of its labor in Cardassian space. But as her department superiors moved up and or out, Limmi was a given replacement. She progressed to Assistant Chief Tactical Officer, leaving only after her supervisor admitted their intention to stay put.

2382: USS CONFUCIUS
Confucius CO Jeon Da knew of few qualified to supervise tactical aboard a Galaxy-class starship, having spent most of her career in the sciences. Though acquainted with Limmi, it was Samson—her second officer—who brokered the women into resolving one another’s dilemma. Upon the rest of the crew’s assembly, they made way toward the galactic core to resume some of the exploration initiatives postponed by the war. Limmi helped mold her department and the crew into a cohesive unit that managed the sporadic tactical threats that appeared with poise, proving herself capable of establishing excellence. Samson and she often collaborated to that end, their proximity tapping the latent romance in their long-lived friendship. They were married by the time Confucius returned to Deep Space 4 in 2387.

2387: USS RAINIER
Originally slated for rapid response along the Romulan Neutral Zone in anticipation of Hobus fallout, heightened unrest within the New Thallonian Protectorate prompted Starfleet to divert one of its Ascension-class carriers to the Sector 221 block. There, she spearheaded a layered conflict forced by the Kzinti, some malcontent Protectorate signatories, Orion cartels, and several other minor powers united in breaking the Federation’s encroachment of their territory. Limmi’s reassignment to Rainier came shortly after she sensed an attempt to telepathically commandeer Deep Space 4, leading up to the Federation’s discovery of Selevian orchestration. However, they’d tapped into authentic sentiments within their cohorts, spurring them into war.

Limmi was an important part of Starfleet’s response. Intended as one of its offsets to the Selevian’s telepathy, she bridged the various branches and departments responsible for Rainier’s tactical elements into a cooperative unit that became key to eroding their opposition’s ability to fight. By early 2390, the Protectorate breakaways and the Orions renounced their participation, sweeping the logistical and geographical legs from under the persisting parties. The Selevians and Kzinti bore more focused Starfleet pressure and surrendered sporadically throughout the year, ending the conflict.

2392: DEEP SPACE 4
Limmi was one of several Rainier senior staffers requested by CO Berman Gotch upon his receiving command of the Ithaca-class supplant. A fringe post for most of its previous iteration as a Regula-class facility, Deep Space 4 gained strategic importance through several geopolitical hotbeds emerging within its aegis. Limmi’s seeming lateral move thus gained her a much broader scope. The recovery efforts of the Sector 221 block in conjunction with Deep Space 5 and Starbase Bravo. Maintaining and securing the Beta Transit corridor with them and sister facility Deep Space 6. Supporting the Romulan recovery effort since Deep Space 4 was one of the closest Federation facilities to Hobus as well as the closest to the Selevian homeworld and the Typhon Expanse. Rather than a singular event, Limmi’s time there is best defined by her steadfastness in helping temper a crucial, yet volatile region beset by those and other concerns.
