Lieutenant Commander Neil Orzahn

Name Neil Orzahn

Position Chief Tactical Officer

Rank Lieutenant Commander

Character Information

Gender Male
Species Trill
Age 34

Physical Appearance

Height 6'1
Weight 170lbs
Hair Color Brown
Eye Color Blue
Physical Description Neil has a tall, slender build contrary to the profession that he has spent the last 14 years of his life working in. Standing at 6'1, over the average for a Trill and a slight 170lbs for his size, Neil does not pose a rather imposing demeanor, a demeanor that he cultivates into an attitude to decieve people into thinking he's something he doesn't quite portray.

With longer golden brown hair that's likely well out of regulation for a male and bright blue eyes with a strong square jawline and the tell tale Trill spots peppering his hairline and down his neck, Neil portrays a rather handsome figure.

Neil prefers to wear a duty jacket with his undershirt and would never be found dead with a vest on underneath as he find them too confining underneath the jacket.

Family

Father Norath Cashona
Mother Leona Cashona
Other Family Neil Morgan (God Father)

Personality & Traits

General Overview A quick talker with a silver tongue and the wittiness to match, Neil is able to talk his way both into and out of most situations. Neil doesnt try to keep anything too regimented in his life as the world is a series of shades of grey. You give a little, take a little and keep the world on turning and know the world might be a little better off. While he is trained to and can fight or shot his way out of most situations, Neil prefers to try and think his way out before resorting to violence, a somewhat ironic trait considering his profession.

Despite that, Neil is smart, dedicated and will do anything for those around him that he's let into his inner circle. He also has a way of dancing around a point if not asked directly, but once asked will lay it all bare to anyone.

While to most in Starfleet, Security/Tactical have always been one in the same as most ships dont have the capacity to hold multiple positions for the two fields and tend to combine them, Neil is at heart a tactician, one who relies on creativity to come up with ideas and plans that might not fit the mold.
Strengths & Weaknesses + Intelligent
+ Charismatic

= Quicktalker
= Shades of Grey

- Elusive
Ambitions Neil doesnt tend to share much with people around him until he's sure they're going to be sticking around for a while, a trait he picked up from his childhood. Despite that, when he does, Neil often expresses his wishes to one day sit in that centre chair and command a ship of his own.
Hobbies & Interests Despite the normal hobbies and interests in his profession, Neil is a bit more of a fan of some more intellectual pursuits. He enjoys a good book, a chat in the pub over a drink, just generally being social.

That being said, Neil is a crack shot and also enjoys a good competitive edge to some of his hobbies, always pushing for the win and while a gracious loser, hates losing.

Personal History Born on Uhara Station in 2361, just off the Jelhas Expanse in the deep galactic south of the Federation, Neil was born to Norath and Leona Cashona, a pair of Trill merchants that ran a general good store on the civilian promenade of the Federation Starbase. In fact, Neil was named for his god-father, and his parents best friend, Neil Morgan, with whom they had worked for for decades by the point of his birth.

An only child, and one growing up in the melting pot that was a Federation Starbase, Neil had a rather exciting childhood where he met species after species as they came and went from the station. Year after year, watching ships come and go and being stuck on the starbase, Neil knew he wanted to be out there, explore the stars as so many of those that came to his home. Growing up on a starbase though also meant that Neil met all types, the good, the bad, the ugly and more to Neils tastes, the ellusive. They always had the best stories to tell the wide eyed Trill youth who had a thirst for stories of adventure. Thanks to them as well, Neil himself learned that he had a knack for the elusive traits, the quick talking, fast on their feet type of deals. Despite that though, contrary to what some of those travellers tried to convince him, Neil ended up in Starfleet.

In 2374 with the War still raging and in full swing, Neils parents were hesitant to let their only son join Starfleet, but he was persistent and most of all, convincing towards his parents, and just before the start of the new year, headed off to Earth to start his training at Starfleet Academy.
Service Record 2379 - 2383

STARFLEET ACADEMY

Neil's time at the Academy was mostly uneventful at least on Earth itself. The fleet in and of itself was still hurting for officers after the end of the Dominion War, the intake had mostly stabilized and Neil was never rushed through any kind of accelerated program. While he seemed to do generally well in most of the subjects, Neil soon found as he finished his second year and aimed to a more specializied branch that he had a real knack for the Tactical branch of Starfleet's combat operations wing.

Neil as it turned out was a natural tactician, his natural intelligence combined with his ability to be quick on his feet and more unusual way of thinking about situations Neil excelled in the field. He even did decently in the Security side of the department which were so intertwined it was hard to split them.

Towards the end of his second year though, everything changed. The Borg launched a massive campaign of not assimilation, but extermination against the powers of the Alpha Quadrant. It was never exactly known to Starfleet what caused the sudden borg offensive, but it would last for several months, and eventually claimed the lives of trillions. For a short period, Neil even believed his parents to be among the fallen as Uhara Station was attacked. It wasnt until months later that he would find out his parents had managed to evacuate before teh attack.

While not top of his class by the time he graduated, Neil was no slouch. Graduating in the top 15% of his class, Neil was assigned to the USS Horatio.

2383 - 2386

USS HORATIO

Neil would end up spending 3 years on the Excelsior Class starship, on in which the Security and Tactical departments were combined and he often spent time doing double duty as a standard Security Officer and a Tactical Officer. Though just a lowly Ensign, Neil thankfully was placed on the Gamma shift and was able to spend time on the bridge at the Tactical console. This would be the ship that Neil would spend the majority of his time on as the Romulan Empire began its slow decline from relevancy.

The Horatio never got the chance to help the Romulans. Despite Admiral Picard's constant demand for more and more ships, the Horatio was never coopted to help the Admiral with his evacuation of Romulan space as the coming Supernova moved closer and closer to reality. She would be in place though to respond to the fall of Utopia Planetia. Ironically the aging ship had been enroute to the yards for a small refit and resupply when the Synths had attacked the shipyard. The devastation had been horrendous, thousands dead, an atmosphere on fire. It was something that Neil has never forgotten.

By the end of 2386, after months of work in the Sol Sector being involved in the clean up of Utopia, Neil asked for and received a transfer off of the aging ship.

2386 - 2391

Starbase Trenton

Placed at the frontier of Federation Space near the northern border of the Romulan Empire and open space, Starbase Trenton was a forward operating base for the Fleet in an area strife with Pirate activity and unexplored space. Much of Neils time here was spent again on Security operations, but in the latter years of his service aboard the station, he was able to transfer full time to Tactical operations, coordinating defence of the station and the surrounding system the starbase claimed as he own sphere of influence.

It was near the start of his time at Trenton that the Romulan Empire fell. The Hobus star went supernova just as it had been predicted and with it millions of Romulans died. Over the preceding years after the supernova, Trenton's importance as a Romulan frontier station and the increasing lawlessness in the space caused a drain on resources for the fleet and starbase. Neil of course found it exciting, all the people moving through the system and base, the stories, and well of course his job wasn't boring thanks to it.

After almost 5 years in the post though, and a galaxy of changes and his growing expertise in Tactical operations, the fleets needs outgrew his own and Neil was transferred.

2391-2395

USS CAELIAN

Assigned as the Chief Tactical officer on the brand new Caelian, a fresh off the lines Vesta-class starship and personal flagship of Admiral Henry Markstrom, Neil's career, whether he liked it or not, took a huge leap forward. Responsible for much of Obsidian Fleet's detachment of the Corps of Engineers, Admiral Markstrom took the ship throughout the floundering region of space Obsidian Fleet called its operating area. Responsible for much of what had once been the Romulan Neutral zone, this new frontier of space in which colonies were now struggling to set up and accept thousands if not millions of refugees from Romulan space, Neil found himself protecting a ship that always seemed to be finding itself in various rather dangerous stretches of space as they ferried engineers too and from colonies.

Despite a few rather hairy situations, Neil managed to keep the ship safe throughout her travels, and learn a thing or two from the many engineers that lived and worked from the ship.

In late 2395 though, Admiral Markstrom approached Neil to take a new position, Chief Tactical officer on the newly recovered Obsidian Command. It was in need of good officers and Markstrom thought he was right for the job. Never one to turn down a compliment and a Starbase sort of guy in the end, Neil accepted.
