Tour - Engineering
Summary
Additional Information
Description | ![]() Unlike on Starships, where system controls tend to be concentrated more closely in order to facilitate limited space, the engineering facilities of Obsidian Command span hundreds of decks. Despite this fact, there are five large places where certain work is concentrated and one space in particular where the activities of the department are coordinated: Main Engineering. Obsidian Command’s Main Engineering is the beating heart of the station's technological prowess. From this room, located in the Upper Utility Section, all of the station's mechanical and technical functions are coordinated, including power, life support, technical research, computers, and even station repairs and upgrades. The Department Head and their assistant have their offices just outside the room and spend most of their on-duty hours running the massive department from Main Engineering. Upon entering Main Engineering, you'll find yourself in a large round room situated directly above the Environmental Ring. The access to this critical area is facilitated by twelve rotating opaque glass doors, a visually striking feature that not only provides entry but also adds an extra layer of security. During times of heightened alert, these doors seamlessly seal shut, restricting access to ensure the safety of the station. In the center of the room, you'll discover the Engineering Command Console—a hub of control and monitoring. This console serves as the nerve center where the Chief Engineer or designated personnel oversee and command all systems across the station. Large and positioned before a prominent and comfortable chair, it exudes a sense of authority and strategic command. The room is intelligently organized, with additional consoles clustered around the central command. Each of these consoles is dedicated to specific functions, including Reactor Control, Damage Control, Combat, Computer, and Life Support Systems. The arrangement allows for efficient oversight and control, ensuring that the engineering team can respond swiftly to any situation. Moving towards the back of the room, a lowered level reveals a conference table and master systems display. Accessible by a set of five surrounding stairs, this area serves as a collaborative space for officers to strategize and plan. With seating for nine officers, the conference table becomes a focal point for discussions and decision-making within the engineering department, and the holographic projection of the station shows developing situations clearly. The round room is adorned with six large screens strategically placed on the walls. These screens serve as windows into the station's systems, displaying vital information such as readings, graphics, schematics, and even external camera feeds. Auxiliary consoles placed in front of each screen enhance the room's versatility, allowing engineers to interact with and manipulate data seamlessly. As you explore Main Engineering, the sense of order, efficiency, and the hum of technological activity becomes palpable. This space is not just a room; it's a command center where the intricate dance of technology and strategy unfolds to ensure the smooth operation of Starbase Obsidian Command. |
