Securing the Promenade (Part 1)

Posted on 02 Mar 2021 @ 6:06pm by Ensign Zyrra Vehlin & Lieutenant Theodore Winslow

Mission: M1 - Emergence
Location: Promenade
Timeline: MD 07 ~0915
665 words - 1.3 OF Standard Post Measure

Everything had happened very quickly. One moment Zyrra was discussing quantum theory of subspace field emissions with a tired looking Tellarite Lieutenant. The next moment that Tellarite was buried under half a bulkhead. Debate or no, it wasn't a sight she was liable to forget in a long time. In the smoke and chaos, she'd witnessed a Nausicaan raiding party brutalise the surprised crewmembers around her, the power shifting between on-and-off, and the distant sounds of even worse fighting going on.

A combination of training and instinct had taken over by now. Her brothers' insistence that she join them in training for the Ushaan had seemingly paid-off, and despite her size and scientific proclivities, the young woman was by no means helpless.

So it was that she was on the deck and choking the life out of one of said Nausicaan raiders when a Starfleet gold uniform flashed in front of her vision. As the muscular form in her grasp finally gave out, she locked eyes with the human male leading a group of other officers. It took her a few seconds to wipe cyan blood from her lip with one hand and snatch-up the Nausicaan's disruptor with the other.

"Lieutenant," she nodded. "I could use some help with these ones."

Theodore turned and recognised the Andorian as someone he had been on the transport with but did not know her name, he was trying to get anywhere to establish a connection with someone to coordinate some type of counter-attack but every time he got somewhere another group found them.

“Keep going head to the Marine barrack.” He instructed the three people he was with and looped back and grabbed the woman to her feet.

“There are civilians getting slaughtered on the lower promenade. We should be helping them,” she retorted sharply, for the moment not caring that she was addressing a superior.

Theo looked at the woman and her sharpness. He was fully aware of what was happening. “Why we are heading down. Are you wishing to come along to assist?” He wondered ducking as he saw a shadow through the smoke. He grabbed her arm pulling her down with him beside the over turned couch.

Zyrra had been about to say something thoroughly badass when the security officer yanked her down and she tumbled over. Something flew past them; an object rather than an energy weapon. Bladed and sharp - an improvised dagger or something. She came up with her disruptor in the general direction of the threat, and fired off a couple of wild shots.

Theodore rolled his eyes as he picked up the blades weapon as the woman shot off stupid shots that barely came close to hitting target but it was enough for him to throw the improvised dagger and hit the shoulder of the Nausicaan. He screamed in pain allowing the pair to make a better escape. “We need to head down and quickly. There was an announcement or something about EVA suits.” He muttered keeping his rifle trained.

“Great. EVA suits.” She couldn’t hide in one of those. Nor fight particularly effectively. But then again, she couldn’t do those things in an airless vacuum either. “Those civilians won’t have their own. We should confine them to a secure section and make sure they’re protected. The food preparation areas likely have hermetically secured storage areas for foodstuffs, that may be the best place to gather them.”

“You know the base better than me.” Theodore was cursing his only basic knowledge. He knew security procedures but he was not able to coordinate with so few security officers. He needed to rely on the Marines.

“Marginally…” Zyrra murmured. “I’ve only been here a few days myself.” She led the way down a service ladder into the main lower level of the promenade. “We do only what we can do with what we have,” she explained. “We trust in our commanders to make the right decisions otherwise.”
