It had taken Hannah the better part of 5 days to get from the Ceres and her rendezvous with the Potempkin to the Starbase. 5 days of cramped quarters, and cramping legs. She twisted in the little bucket seat she'd booked, stretching first one leg, then the other. This is what she got for trying to save a few credits. She was learning a lifetime of lessons in this super uncomfortable 5 day trip. Thinking, perhaps next time she wouldn't be so much of a damn fool, she gazed out the tiny round hatch of a window. The station started out as a speck of silver and blue, growing until the hatch window couldn't encompass it all. It seemed- at that moment that she blinked and suddenly they were inside a docking bay.
Stretching as if she'd never stood before now, her wobbly legs were grateful that she had done her stretching. Hannah thought perhaps that she might tip over for a moment as the unsteadiness of her muscles worked themselves out. Once done, it took her no time at all to shoulder her bag and climb out of the shuttle, when it was her turn to do so.
Her eyes got bigger and bigger until Hannah was gawking like a child at the enormous space that sprawled out before her. Her stomach flipped as she looked up and up and up into the heart of a Starbase. It was mind-boggling how huge it was, and she came from Europa. But why she was reacting like she'd never been in a massive open space before now? The stomach churning reaction was quite out of place, and Hannah had to physically steady herself in order to not lose herself in her observations. It wasn't like she wasn't used to Jupiter's massive hulk above her, and yet this somehow felt different. It was different because it was open, and so loud - she decided after closing her mouth and moving to the side so that the others could pass her. Jupiter rising over her as a child was a silent guardian, not the mass of personage that this place was.
"Pull it together woman." Hannah muttered under her breath, taking a slow deep breath to calm herself as much as she could with eyes upon her. Shaking off the feeling that made her insides feel quivery and like her legs were made of water, she put her shoulder bag back on and walked up to a panel. She tapped on it to activate it and smiled a little when the screen obediently lit from within to take her inquiry.
"Quarters assignment Lieutenant Wagner, Hannah J. Serial number, SM 030-2210 ML . Please?"
There was a titter of laughter from behind her as she said please to the computer, but Hannah ignored it as she often did. Her PADD obediently lit up with the directions to the quarters assignment for the Assistant Chief Medical Officer. They were large comparatively speaking, and she followed the little blinking dot through the corridors. People moved out of her way, as she appeared to have no inkling that they were there with her so focused was she on that dot. Her eyes flickered from the dot to the door numbers, and back again until she had finally found what was designated as hers.
"Home sweet home."
