As Obsidian Command celebrates the exciting conclusion of its first mission, we want to recognize the players for their contributions!
To begin, every one who partook in M1: Emergence has received a badge on their user profile to commemorate the mission.
We also have some time served citations: can you believe it's been 6 months already? Respect to Markus, Nikki, Paul, Becca, Jill, and Strazz for staying power!
The Good Conduct Medal goes to Tara and Strazz!
Tara (Hokir): For requesting and taking the opportunity to contribute to the action of the mission by running headlong into potential danger and supporting fighting troops by finessing transporters to disarm the enemy.
Strazz (Kavalar): For following through with support as the Fire Tigers defended Obsidian Command under attack from a pirate raid.
Professional Merit goes to Becca!
For a quiet man, Winslow packs a punch and always rises to the occasion; whether deflecting blows on an away mission or confronting bounty hunters on the promenade, he thinks on his feet and maintains composure. In reflective moments, he also manages to overcome his shy nature to share some of his passion for martial arts which reaches back to his childhood.
And this Professional Merit Badge, sent in for Markus and Nikki, nominated by Strazz
Ribbon of Merit for both the growing sub plot between CO. and XO., before they started out on the same page and were friends but as time went on looking below the surface and as their respective roles came to the fore the differences appeared, what's expected of a CO. and what's expected of an XO. regardless of friendship. An enjoyable read to see where this goes.
Here's a new category added to the awards available.
Story Contributor Award: Awarded for bringing an element to the plot that adds meaningful dimension and draws the interaction of others.
This one goes out to Paul and Becca. For bringing Romulan refugees to our party! It added complexity to the situation in M1 and will continue to be fun to explore in M2.
Another new award, inspired by Jill's regular posts throughout our first half of the mission.
Characterization: backstory.
As a former castaway on an ice planet, kept against her will as a prisoner of the Breen, Samantha Cavendish never wants to be cold again.
There was no award that said what I wanted most to say about writing with Paul this mission, so I made one up. And now it's legit a thing. Characterization: Style Award.
Quinn stands out due to a consistent commitment on the part of the writer to stay true to the core elements of the character. Quinn can be aloof and impersonal, even harsh— but the character is very far from one dimensional. It's rewarding to write alongside this character and interact with such a well crafted and distinct portrayal.
On a personal note, I'd like to add that I thought there was a lot of acting chemistry thanks to this faithful characterization Paul maintained especially illustrated in these two particular posts:
Ribbon of Panache for Markus (nominated by Becca) (seconded by comments from Tara):
Without a doubt one of the best writing style I have ever had the honour to read. Well thought and engaging whether it is Minka and her family, DeHavilland 'Captaining' or Sepandiyar ordering Marines and not allowing them to leave. The style is perfect for the situation. Can't wait to see what comes next.
NPC Award for Paul (nominated by Becca)
From the moment Zyrra said "I wrote my final thesis on it," I just knew the character would be well written and engaging. The promenade posts only went on to prove the point Zyrra is not your typical science officer nor Andorian. Well done Paul.
Bronze Star for Nikki, given by Markus:
For setting the standard as a leader, writer and creative mind behind the story not only for the main plot, but for countless subplots and other character development items. As First Officer, constantly pushing the envelope of ideas with all the crew, and following through with those ideas by leading the post counters herself. A well-deserved award.
Diversity Ribbon for Nikki (nominated by Becca)
People normally write Orion's in a certain way and there is no moving from that way. Calliope rips up that rule book and eats it for breakfast showing the struggles of a character who is pretty much destroying themselves for the greater good. I have never met a character done in such a way that I feel I could just hug her up and tell her everything would be alright in the end. The post Ghostly Comforts is a post that will stay with me for a very long time.
During the course of our first mission, two posts were featured in the OF's Post Spotlight:
A Walk Among the Stars
Ghostly Comforts
This is just the beginning! Here's to all our future missions and the fun we'll have growing and expanding into our characters, our stories, and our friendships together!
If you have another nomination, either enter it via the site, or please message myself or markus and we'll make sure it gets put into the system and announced! While we'll try to reflect with rewards at the ends of missions, please also nominate as you feel led to any time during the mission as well!
Finally, a message from the captain, a man of multitudinous words:
"Good job." —Markus
