OVERVIEW OOC
No new players. No players left the sim.
Weirdly… we had the same post count as last month…. Huh.
Just Housekeeping- We’ve been doing this anyway, but it’s basically become common for us to report a player as LOA if we haven’t heard from them in over a month. If you see your name on LOA and you didn’t ask for LOA, that’s probably what happened. If you post, or contact the GM team about your availability, you can be set back to active!
In the News- There is an article spotlighting Obsidian Command that is scheduled to be released on the fleet website. We didn’t get much response to include for the simmiversary celebration (things have been pretty chill the past couple of months for sim chatting and ooc discussion) so I worked up a kind of game overview of our mission history instead as a retrospective.
Also, “Falling Out” got a new mission image. You can see it on the mission page! It might not look like much but it is the result of a lot of hemming and hawwing and I’m glad to see it done. Please do appreciate it with us.
RECRUITMENT
Accepting applications!
We issued a recruitment ad for Science personnel in August.
In September we put out a general ad with categorical listing for departments.
We just issued an ad for Engineering personnel.
There will be another general ad going out for Nov/ Dec.
If a prospective player has some questions about applying, please do not hesitate to join us in our discord and ask away!

GENERAL STORY SUMMARIES (IC)
As this month’s stories were diverse, handling the results of the prior mission and a great deal of character development and world building, please read the short summaries:

FLYING SOLO CHALLENGE
Spiral took this win! Wear the paper crown in good health, my friend. I’ve been losing to the best. Very happy to see the numbers everyone is putting out on solos.
Spiral 6,775 (4 posts)
Nikki 5,284 (3 posts)
David 4,923 (2 posts)
Polar 3,742 (2 posts)
Tara 2,826 (2 posts)
Total solo word count: 23,550
ACTIVITY HIGHLIGHTS
Activity highlight: Tara- It’s been fun to see Tara spinning some new threads for us to read. Even though I know her availability is limited, I am hoping that it’s just a taster and I'm looking forward to much more! She put out a couple of solos and swung a JP this month which added up to some interesting character development.
Activity highlight: Zach- I think Zach is picking up a little steam and putting down roots on the sim. I see him more often in tags and always appreciate the thought he is putting into the scene ahead.
Activity highlight: Polar- Things are coming to a head in the Ibn Sharjar story and experiencing the oncoming threat of a solar storm and the hazard of exposure at hand is exciting. (Not to mention a deadly confrontation being staged in a curiously named cavern…) It’s really doing a lot to bring the world to life.
Activity highlight: David- David is building on a new character thread, Stowaway, following Fernanda and her escape from Earth, which I am enjoying reading. Additionally the drama surrounding Moon and her mother is building. The writer even finds a little time to have Rice instigate some further tension in the lives of another couple– more fuel for the pyre…
Activity highlight: Spiral- Was on fire this month. I loved several of her posts, but especially “Fair Trade” in that Brek doesn’t have his way with everyone by the end of the post. She also took on the Fleet challenge, I believe, for attempting to use all of the fall challenge word references within a scene. I noticed.
AWARDS
These will be entered into the Nova system shortly!
The Vulcan Medal of Comedy (David & Nikki)
“Woulda Shoulda Coulda” - Moon-Young Chung & Sylvie Hardt - Surrat Gallery
This is a post that describes what happens when two women from very different backgrounds meet. It starts with an interesting discussion on art, which is often revealing of the predicament endured by the artist’s homeworld, and gradually moves to humour and sharp repartees from both women. Moon has the last word though, as she found in Ms Hardt a new customer and will be able to design a new wardrobe for her.
.........................................................
Constellation Prize (Tara)
For the series of posts describing Aiden Dhow as he explores a colony on Obsidian, armed with his camera. The fact he took the pictures of refugees gets the attention of the local council. Something which in turn allows the reader to discover Aiden’s difficult past.
....................................................
Silver Quill Medal (Polar)
ibn Sharjar: Sunstorm truce
For Polar’s posts, set on Obsidian colony, allowing readers to discover the complex habits and customs of the nomadic tribes that survive in a harsh desert. We are far from the usual Star Trek narrative here and it’s always a delight to follow the journeys of Atif ibn Sharjar - Merchant Extraordinaire of the Al Ashar.
OF EotY Award Nominations
If you have any interest in putting up your fellow writers for these awards, please have a look in the next couple of weeks! The nominations are open now and close on November 25th.
I believe this is the awards round that goes to popular vote. But the nominations will be published for all to read, either way, and people are already looking forward to reading about other players & characters across the fleet, which I think is the best light in which to view this event: a fleetwide showcase of everyone's favorites! You can nominate more than one in every category if you like, too. Please read the instructions carefully and be sure to stick to the word count requirements.
