Upcoming Awards and Events (Jan/Feb 2025)

Hi, me again.
Just want to pass along some news and links! These are time sensitive if you want to participate or nominate, so be sure to click through in the next couple days if you're interested. I'll list them out in time order.
If you are writing a nomination for either of the awards, make sure you keep a copy of your nomination text and not just type in the google forms (which aren't usually going to send you a copy or let you go back). If your nominee is not selected as a winner, you can contact me and we can always turn those lovely unelected nominations into sim level awards for your fellow player(s)! In the end, I believe the most important part of giving an award is that our friends know what we appreciate about them.
You can also volunteer as a judge for the Khitomer awards, or offer to be a presenter at Khitomer if you have something to share! If you do, tell me so I can try and make your presentation! ~nikki
Babel Conference aka BaCon

This is an online Discord hosted simming convention with chat room and audio presentations. This one is run by fleets not directly affiliated with Obsidian Fleet, but I usually find something interesting at all of these kind of events. If you're not available when it's live, you can still join the discord channel and read the text presentations afterwards.

2024 Obsidian Fleet Year End Awards: Call for Nominations
Nominations Due Jan 31st 2025
I always nominate people for these awards, but because they are determined by an open popular vote, it's a long shot for Nominees from smaller or lesser known games to be elected winners. (By contrast, the Summer OF Day awards are handled by 3rd party judges instead of popular vote. It's just a different approach!) It's still worth nominating as all the nomination text is published during the public voting period and potentially read by all of the voting public in the fleet. A nice way to show appreciation for your fellow players! You do not have to be a GM or aGM or anything fancy to nominate. Anyone can nominate!!

Visit the conference website's Awards section to see the award descriptions and what they ask for for nominations in each category.
As a rule of thumb, my guess is that 4th Quarterly 2024 awards refers to nominations for activity in roughly Oct '24 - Dec '24.

These conferences are jointly hosted with Obsidian Fleet and a couple of other Fleets; players from all over the online simming community are attending and presenting. Consider dropping by, if you're free for any part of the day, and, once again, if you're not available when it's live, you can still join the discord channel and read the text presentations afterwards. Have something about simming/ writing you want to share? If you're ambitious and interested, you can even volunteer to be a presenter.
