OC - Jan ‘25 - Summaries & Quotes

Hard to Get: Shell Game
Someone has a message for Jacinta Zahn, and after failing to complete the job at her house, he lurks though the spaceport intending to deliver it ‘properly’. (Nikki)

Not everyone took jobs calling for roughing up old ladies, but Gator figured they could have it coming as much as anyone else. This one was an old fleeter and those badgers were due the same as any other badger who’d come down on him in an instant, if they ever had the scruples to do it. And they would too.

Admirals, Romulans, Pyrryx, and Politics
DeHavilland’s Chief Diplomatic Officer, Maurice Rubens, gets her up to speed on regional politics; he brings the briefing back around to the Korinn situation, and the double bind of getting anything past Admiral Harshman. (Markus, David)

“We need to stop Harshman, but we can’t stop Harshman. So, we need to get political.”

DeHavilland sat forward a bit, “Admirals, Romulans, Pyrryx and politics. At which point in the conversation did you think I got the impression that this would all be ‘safe’?” she asked with a shake of her head. She was already dealing with so much that put her at risk so what was one more issue. What was one more pile of excrement to find herself covered in while trying to pretend to everyone else she wasn’t.

“I don’t mean risky for us. This is politics. As my grandma used to say, ‘Acid kills the ina raptor, not the Inronok.’” DeHavilland raised an eyebrow. Rice took that to mean he should get to the point, “I suppose you’d have to know about Trill zoology.”

Wandering Minds
On his way to the Engineering conference, Brek’s young entourage has opinions about the business of engineering. (Spiral)

“Well, we had better make a move on, gentlemen. The Engineering Conference awaits.”

Judging by their lack of enthusiasm, you would think he was dragging them to a charity event. Still, eventually they all got to their feet, and with encouragements from Brek, they even managed to look solemn and professional. Unfortunately, before they could get to the conference itself there was a prodigious long queue, with some security staff checking everyone’s credentials.

“Yet another form of torture, courtesy of Starfleet,” one of ‘his’ engineers whined. “Those people are gifted, that’s for sure.”

A Dark Place
After decking Captain Bowdler seemingly out of the blue, a bit of backstory implies that Bowdler certainly had it coming, after a bad call put Zayne’s team into a wretched situation where not everyone got to walk away.(Markus)

But someone in Starfleet had given the Orrudian’s this tech, tipping the balance of power in their favor. Whoever it was had made a huge mistake - one that was going to cost a lot of Joraon lives.
...................
“Go look at Julie, and Toby… and then tell me I’m fucking relieved,” Thad snarled back at Potsall.

Surprises
Under pretense of getting some family photos taken, Ibis takes Wallace and the kids to the Promenade where Brek is waiting with all of the festivities of a surprise party and a grand reveal of some special installation art. It leaves Wallace speechless, but not in the way they may have hoped. (Spiral, David, Nikki)

He cleared his throat a third time and tried to salvage Ibis’ embarrassment with the small knot staring at them. “Sorry folks. This,” he shook his thumb over his shoulder, “took me back to a place I hadn’t been in…a long time. Caught me off guard. Dad would’ve really loved it - ” With that statement, he knew what was missing.

God damn it.

Captive Considerations
Junior Lieutenant Saaba is manning the Security check-in desk, pondering over the pirates in the hold, when someone unexpected arrives to report himself to the brig. (Markus, Nikki)

Saaba was scrolling through the docking updates on her own fact hunt, sure that the Alabama wasn’t actually going to turn up [...]. But as it happened the ship started with ‘A’ and was at the top of the list. “Shhhhh...ut up…” She cleared her throat then looked up. “Sir? You really assaulted Captain Bowdler?”

Thaddeus only turned his eyes up to look at her, “He’s with Captain DeHavilland. You’ll need his statement,” he offered flatly, flicking off the PaDD and tossing it on the bunk.

Butterflies
When T’Sheng argues against the high asking price for Brek’s butterfly brooch, Brek pushes the deal over the edge by suggesting a price he knows T’Sheng will never be willing to pay. (Spiral)

Did she think she was talking to an average Terran peddler with no love for commerce, selling stuff to fleeters just for the sake of it?

Polite Talk
Gordon approaches Admiral Sepandiyar, hoping to build a closer rapport which may be vital surrounding the political situation of the Korinn. (Markus, Nikki)

“Are you going to be giving any of the welcoming statements, or just standing by to evoke the air of Starfleet Officialdom today?”
...................
All Gordon needed was to convince Sepandiyar to put his proverbial foot in the proverbial door until they could fit a certain O class planet through.

The Runaway: It’ll Be Okay
As the Barcelos Rooster makes a run from Romulan aggressors looking to take prisoners for ransom, some of the crew are not as onboard with the plan as others. When the kids get caught between them, Fernanda finds herself in a serious spot…(David)

Keef-or-Mick – whoever – let out a high-pitch shriek at the top of his lungs. He attempted to drop Fernanda, but she held on tight like some starving piranha who’d gotten hold of its next meal. It took several flaps of his arm for her to lose her bite and fall heavily to the walkway.

Divided Attention
As they attend the opening ceremonies of the Engineering conference, Lofthammer and Zahn have different priorities. Lofthammer doesn’t like the seats Zahn picked, but it’s too late to change during the keynote speech, and she finds him a nuisance. (Nikki)

He narrowed down the species in his scan to Tellarite and Ferengi. The Tellerite he had followed in was his primary concern, but he’d also thought he’d overheard a group of Ferengi discussing technological espionage– at least that’s what it had sounded like to Sven when they said something about unethical means of acquiring technology.

He flagged them as well.
