UPDATE
And we’re back! Still recovering from the holidays, finding our 2025 work/school/life groove again, and how writing fits in with all of that IRL business. But it seems like people are pulling out their notes and figuring out where we left off our stories, individually and collectively. The Groundhog also saw his shadow so I guess that means we have six more weeks of winter for curling up with tea and writing posts from under a blanket..
!EXTRA AWESOME NEWS!
OC has been recognized by the Simming Prize!
See OC listed on the Simming League Historical Society website
Here’s the text of the award:
A high-quality and prolific sim, Obsidian Command has done it all. Boasting three Tournament of Simulations awards, including the top overall prize at the 2022 competition, and multiple awards from her home club, including for outstanding mission and outstanding creativity, the sim is widely recognized for its excellence by all who analyze it. The richness of its characters and the originality of its episodes serve as the foundation for making this sim one for the ages.
Congrats to us! I’ll make sure this win is added to our trophy list in the site wiki soon.

AWARDS
Paper Crown!
January 2025’s Paper Crown goes to Sep/ Markus. He’ll have to defend his bragging rights to it for February.
Chorus Medal - Spiral
For the series of posts where Brek must handle a “Confusion” of youthful Ferengi Engineers, literally travelling about with him as his very own chorus, complete with commentary to share. The situation continues to amuse and endear with every post.
Bronze Quill - Markus
For the set up and intensity of the tragically failed away mission in the backstory post titled “A Dark Place” which illuminates for the reader the fuel for Zayne’s long contained anger.
Silver Quill - David
For “The Runaway” continuing thread: the well crafted continuing story of Fernanda Ruiz, Runaway, turned Stowaway, and now set adrift as a Castaway! With David at the keyboard writing these twists for young Fernanda, we’re afraid to say it can’t get worse…
Wordsmith Medal for Descriptive Writing - David
From succinct, consistent portrayals of npcs with meaningful details, to well dressed settings, to the full use of the senses of the point of view characters, David puts the reader into his scenes, wherever he takes them. “The Runaway: It’ll Be Okay” is a great example: Fernanda’s stomach is “knotted into a ball “ and “fat tears dangled for a brief moment on her chin” Later, on the ship, you can palpably feel the moments leading to the knife fight, seeing through Fernanda’s eyes as she notices barely perceptible moments of the mutinous crewer’s hand going for the blade. We even get to taste flesh as Fernanda bites into an arm… David brings this level of detail to all of his writing.
Captain’s Merit - Nikki
Sep told me I’m doing a good job. He says he likes my writing descriptions as much as David’s. I’m issuing this award to myself to remember this by. *forges Sep’s signature*
That’s it folks! Thanks for a fun month. Let's tag soon!! ~n
