AWARDS
Paper Crown!
February 2025’s Paper Crown goes to Spiral! She has earned a month’s worth of bragging rights, thanks to her solo word count leadership!

Khitomer Awards: Player of the Quarter (4th Quarter 2024)
SPIRAL

Spiral is a gift of a player. She is kind and active, involved in OOC chit chat and sharing on OC's sim discord, and also a regular nominator of awards for her fellow players, making sure all of her fellow writers are seen and celebrated for their efforts. She also goes out of her way every month to select quotes from all of the posts for us to feature in our sim's news items (besides her own, she's too modest and always 'forgets' to quote her own posts, so I have the pleasure of choosing from all of her creative and witty writing!). With all of this, she has become our most beloved de facto Morale Officer. She is also a gifted writer with a unique character, and she makes efforts to joint post with anyone who will take her up on the offer! She also volunteers to join into story threads with interesting and inventive npc characters that enliven the stories. It is hard to come by a better writing partner, and we count ourselves very lucky to have her on OC.

FEB '25 SUMMARIES & QUOTES

Out of the Loop
At the Engineering Conference, Brek manages the young Ferengi Engineers as they volunteer their questions, and their opinions. (Spiral)

“I’ll share my thoughts for half a slip of latinum,” another Ferengi said.

One of the engineers stopped him. “Keep it. Your opinion is of little value.”

Of Press Passes
Working out of small hotel accommodations with her film crew and having tried for weeks to get an interview with Xeri and Wallace, Eloise Khandra-Vogel has had it up to here with being given the runaround. (Nikki)

“ —To… a… show!?” Eloise pushed a crate of film gear off an unmade bed and onto the floor where a dozen lighting orbs tumbled and rolled away with resounding clatter. “I wanted exclusives!” She boxed at the air helplessly, weeks of pent up frustration pouring out of her. “We’re getting slice-of-life stories, puff pieces, dry-eye technical briefs— and now we’re expected to eat at the trough like some common net diva snorting lypra fumes for culture and fashionista hyper-votes! For the love of— What should we do next? Dog-walker interviews in the park? Issue a restaurant guide? Are we going to be covering discount sale announcements on the ass end of this station’s promenade? Aughhhh! ”

Representing
Advocate for Wallace and Xeri in the interest of their continued guardianship of Ikemba, Rit Sarteniac shows up in court and meets the opposition. (David)

They didn’t much appreciate Rit, but they didn’t have to like him. They needed to like the logic of his arguments, and he’d wager his logic against anyone’s any day of the week and twice on the Pirate Queen’s birthday.

Common Sense
Brek’s holoassistant attempts to help him identify and then solve a potential security problem, but he doesn’t find any of her proposed solutions to his liking. (Spiral)

“[...]Is it possible to put a limit to greed?”

“Obviously, yes. It’s called common sense.”

“Which is in very short supply in this galaxy, and not only among Ferengis, as we all know.”

The Prestige Collection Auction Pt1
At a small auction, Brek spies an opportunity to meet another opportunist: the Ferengi Proprietor Pog, of Pog’s Emporium, and they strike a deal, as two Ferengi are wont to do, of course. (Spiral, Nikki)

But Pog wasn't going to tell Brek exactly what he had his eyes peeled for just so that Brek could drive up the bids on him. "It would be a shame *not* to put a low offer on these over-hyped goods. It would be like keeping your pockets closed while it was raining latinum. "

Alternative Workout
Security officer Gabriel Lyons forgoes the over crowded gym for an alternate workout in a holodeck setting of his choice. (Sara)

The mist itself rolled off the lake in waves as the waters edge ebbed and flowed against the beach underneath the berm. A painter's palette of blue and grey would turn into silvery sand and every shade of blue imaginable if he waited for the sunrise to bring illumination to the area. A deep breath of the crisp cool air tickled his nostrils and had him laughing after a moment.
