OBSIDIAN COMMAND DISCORD SERVER

UPDATE

Putting together the March and April reports– In terms of posting, things have become slower as a norm for some time, and it seems life has got most of us by the horns, myself included. Even so, we still have a decently active game by most standards! I have faith our seasons will turn.

For May we’ll be encouraging anyone who wants to participate in setting a personal writing goal. Whether that’s participating in a certain number of posts, writing through a thread or post that’s been begging you to get out, covering a character backstory, or just good old fashioned solo word count goals– players can try and claim their goal and strive towards it together. Tell us in the discord what your grand aspirations are for writing in May! I’ll try to check up with the sim week by week at least to see where we’re at and we can encourage one another.

Personnel updates:
Unfortunately, we lost contact with Endia/ LeBlanc for several months, so his character is no longer on the roster.

Meanwhile…. A new potential player has entered the chat and plans to join with a civilian character using a concept of his own. Stay tuned.

RECRUITMENT
With just six active players now, it’s time for us to run a new ad campaign and seek out some applications. I’ll see if I can get some new ad copy together. I’ve thought it through and abbreviated our available role listing, although it covers the same jobs. It looks like this now:

Obsidian Command is always taking applications!

~Department Chief Roles Available in: Engineering, Operations, Security, Tactical, Science, Traffic Control/ Support Craft, Dockyard Director (Dept Head characters rank as LtCmdr or a Senior Non-Com)
~Or play any of many varied specialists in multiple departments
~Civilians: all sorts!
~And possibly unique, balanced character concept pitches

OC - March & April ‘25 - Summaries & Quotes
MARCH

Shut Out
Lofthammer decides to act on his gut feeling and calls in the suspicious item. Better safe than sorry.
(Nikki)

Sven scrolled through the sensor overlays to get a map of the Exhibit hall and search it for Professor Fezzer Davit’s display stall. There were no spaces reserved under his name. It was enough to make the hair on the back of his neck stand up. They’d let a display case in for someone without a reserved exhibit? Swiping at the air, Sven pulled the file on the case opened again, scanning over it for the umpteenth time. Davit, or at least the man claiming to be Davit, had signed his case in under the name of another scientist’s exhibit. Sven recognized the broad mouthed, narrow eyed Andorian on the profile image right away: he was the Andorian who the Tellerite had been trying to keep pace with at the entry point.

When Opportunity Knocks
Brek’s mood sours as he considers the expenses of hiring more security. Nyasha is forced to listen to his tirades while her council is turned down. (Spiral)

“Where are you going with this?” Brek’s tone was angry, maybe a few seconds away from a full blown tantrum.

The holo-assistant gave a casual shrug. “Not far, I suppose. The point is... You do great things, and then, now and again, you do something that will harm your reputation. Take, for instance, your persistent friendliness with Senator Thitur.”

“Come off it! He is an old man, and about as offensive as a cup of tea. At worst he is lukewarm.”

Good News
Rubens hatches a plan, beginning to arrange diverse pieces of two potential disasters into one orchestrated disaster that might just make headlines. (David)

“What about an interview with the Korinn delegation?”

Rice nodded. “That’s along the right lines. Not sure the delegation is ready for her and I doubt it would help the situation.”

“Maybe a one-on-one with the Admiral?”

“Sependiyar?” Rice considered it for a moment, then shook his head. Not good enough. Throw a rock on Earth and it’d hit a hundred admirals before falling to the ground.

The Prestige Collection Auction Pt2
At the Auction, Brek attempts to introduce the unrefined Mr. Pog to Ms. Hardt, but Pog is not one to take hints very well, not with the potential profit opportunities at hand to focus on. (Spiral, Nikki)

"Associates in the second degree! To be sure, we can be associates in the first! I am Pog, proprietor of Pog's Emporium, the largest supply of goods both common and esoteric you'll find anywhere in the system! If you can't find it, you come to Pog." His mouth still hanging open, he breathed heavily for a beat and as the Cardassian Heiress didn't immediately reply he added, "That's me."

Tight Spot
In the Exhibit Hall, Lofthammer is met by a Explosive Ordnance Disposal team and they work on dislodging and safely containing the Tellerite’s mysterious device before the Marines take it away. (Nikki)

“Sarge Charger…” Lofthammer had to say it outloud to fully appreciate all of the irony contained in this little bomb sniffer wolf woman. “Where’s the rest of your team?”

APRIL

Herding Cats
Gabriel Lyons gets assigned a team of fresh ensigns and begins to put them to the test while on duty at the Conference. (Sara)

When Cal immediately put hand to phaser and Kelvren actually unholstered his, Gabriel snarled inwardly and interposed his body in between the young officers and the public eye.

“Not every incident requires a phaser. Put it away. “ His voice was disapproving and there was a note of authority in it that would not be denied. Grudgingly the young ensign put away his phaser and looked solemnly into the face of his training officer.

A Memorandum Due
Confronted with ghosts of his past, Captain Bowdler declines to press charges against Commander Zayne for testing his jaw in the turbolift. Sepandiyar isn’t done asking questions, however, and DeHavilland is left waiting for the other top secret shoe to drop. (Markus, Nikki)

“I have nothing else to say on the matter, Captain,” he said matter-of-factly. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll return to my duties.”

She wanted to scream at him. She wanted to push him in frustration and scream at him that his stupid, childish, immature outburst, no matter how rooted in history and reality it was had just put her in the worst possible position she could be in. She wanted to yell at him, confine him to his quarters, hell even lash him to the main mast to be flogged. Anything to distract her from the god-awful truth that the person she wanted least to see, to avoid any chance of the Admiral connecting them together was now with the Admiral.

This was bad. This was very, very, bad.

New Roots
In Itonia, Xerne reflects under the early rays of an Obsidian dawn, about the past and the present and the future, and shares a morning brew with his brother Narrok. (Nikki)

His brother rolled over as the scent of the morning brew reached him on the other side of the room. He grunted. “Always smells better than it tastes.”

“Do you not want a cup?”

Shaking his head, Norrok pulled himself up to sitting with his arms and then motioned towards himself for his brother to give him the damned drink.

Shadows of Obligation Pt1
Ever the patient Vulcan, T’Sheng takes a longer route towards investigating the refugee situation planet side and finds work volunteering; there are some wary members who find her slightly overqualified, however. (Spiral)

T’Sheng had encountered others like her in the past. People who sought to learn new things about pain. A pain that they wanted to soothe and eliminate. The goal was commendable, of course, but also terribly futile.

A Friendly Interrogation
After a recovery stay in Itonia, Oly finds himself invited to dinner at Kitaan Dhow’s place. Oly explains his past with his would-be killer. Kit suggests an assist from another old contact. (Tara)
“Blackfoot,” Shirin peered at him. “Wasn’t that one of those old tribal groups in the Americas?”

“Call them what you will, they’re family all the same. They’re also part of why I had a ken for this place. I grew up in the Montana regions; scrubland and mountains where it wasn’t miles of corn.”

The Prestige Collection Auction Pt3
Pog wins his rocks and therefore owes his promised favor to Brek for helping to secure the goods. Also, Brek is now the reticent owner of a new shuttle. (Spiral, Nikki)

"It's mine, I've won it, give it to me," Pog declared. "I'll deliver it my self, to myself! I'll have none of this delivery business and hidden fees and surcharges!" There had been no fees or surcharges with the included delivery of the Auction winnings, but Pog was the type of person who didn't advertise his additional fees unless asked directly, so he assumed likewise of everyone else's business. Meanwhile, Save the delivery fee was a personal motto he applied whenever possible.

Capturing the Moment
At the engagement party, one of Ibis’ brothers arrives. Timoleon inspires new bouts of drama among the Xeri’s, making for a very interesting picture time when the young event photographer comes around. (Spiral, David, Nikki)
For a moment, Timoleon stood very silent, gauging his brother-in-law-to-be by craning his neck back and looking up, quite a ways. None of the Xeris were all that tall to begin with, but the difference seemed to quiet Timoleon, momentarily, making him gauge what he wanted to say, now.

More Than Who We Were
After a very awkward family portrait, Wallace has an aside with his fiancee as he is tormented about his own brother, Markus, and the chasm left between them long ago. (David, Nikki)
Wallace glanced at Irwin, then at Ibis. He groaned. “We’ve hit some new low. We’re having a conversation via your dad.” With a yank on her arm, he urged her along with him across the lawn and behind the sculpture, hidden for a moment from the throngs. “What do you think? Should I…I can’t believe I’m even…should I invite him?”

Springing a Leak
All of the Station is his stage, when the Chief Diplomat wants to kick proverbial rocks down proverbial hills. It all begins with a well placed whisper… (David, Nikki)
Iskander’s face sank as she marched up to their table. “Ms. Khadra-Vogel,” he glanced at Rice nervously, worried he was going to screw up in front of his boss. “Good morning - uh - what brings you - uh - here?”

“Usually the Sudari Egg special and the coffee.” She quipped before painting on a camera ready smile.
