Position Civilian

Rank Captain

Character Information

Gender Male
Species Reman
Age 57

Physical Appearance

Height 5'11"
Weight 204lbs
Hair Color None
Eye Color Green
Physical Description A typical Reman male, at least from what information Starfleet has on the subject. A considerably muscular individual, like his brethren, though while his outward appearance is menacing and threatening, her personality is one of cold calculation and flawless execution.

His skin is pale, and though most of his kind prefer the darkness, he's been conditioned to the Federation Standard lighting prevalent throughout Federation space. That doesn't mean he isn't still capable of sight in the dark far surpassing most species, with the exception of the Caitian crew.

Has a deep and gravelly voice that sounds like large rocks being dragged across a canyon. He doesn't have to project, his voice carries on its own.

Presence. He doesn't wave emphatically, point his fingers or otherwise make a show of giving his orders. He simply is there and that invokes the air of command. It's hard not to spot him on the Bridge.

Family

Mother Doctor Thora sh'Dilz (Andorian Shen)
Other Family Xoldun has no 'family' that he's aware of, only those who took him in and raised him from an infant.

Personality & Traits

General Overview It has been a hard road for Xoldun, and as such he meets life with subdued optimism and interacts with the Starfleet crew expecting prejudicial treatment. It is difficult to be the only Reman in the Federation, let alone the only one holding a Command of his own.

While gruff and menacing on the exterior, Xoldun is actually a kind individual. He holds firm to his own code of honor, and is not afraid to hold firm to that code even if it means standing against orders. It is what made him a stout Security Officer and what makes him a solid Commander.

Very aware of the risk that Starfleet is taking giving him Command of a vessel. While he knows that he's earned the honor, he is also aware of the trust that Starfleet Command has placed in him despite that risk.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths:
- Confidence. Extremely confident in his ability to Command and Control the goings on of his ship. Confident in his decisions once he's made them and confident in his ability to continually adapt to the situation. He doesn't make decisions rashly, and as a result feels nothing but certain that the choice he's made or did make is/was the right one - even if it turned out differently.
- Security/Science. As odd of a blend as it is, Xoldun excels at both subjects. The former, due to his size, species and general confidence in all aspects of his lift, the latter due to his insatiable desire to learn more. He has no idea if it is a trait common to Reman, or if it is simply a by-product of being raised among thinkers and dreamers and other scientists within the Federation. Either way, he commands a mastery of both subjects and is an ideal selection for such long-range missions.

Weaknesses:
- Relationships. Xoldun has no problem interacting with people of all species. He has no concerns with social interactions, humor or being able to get along with groups. His weakness lies in the relationships beyond a simple friendship or acquaintance. As a Reman, he's not exactly fighting off the suitors and being one of the only ones in Starfleet, the odds of him finding a companion who has shared his strife is almost nil.
Ambitions To date, Xoldun has exceeded any ambition that he's ever possessed as a member of Starfleet. First it was the Academy, then Fleet Service, and now a command of his own. He has far exceeded his own expectations and looks forward to what may lie ahead in the distant future. Perhaps he can be the first Reman to be a Flag Officer and lead the peaceful efforts of Starfleet in forging a bond with his Reman brothers, with whom he has never communed.
Hobbies & Interests Fascinated by Terran history, particularly those that involve water. Something in his blood calls to it and he enjoys anything to do with it. Fishing, swimming, sailing, skiing (both water and snow). He is simply fascinated with it and can always be found in the holodeck doing something involving water.

Personal History Not very much is known about Xoldun and where he came from prior to his being found. In 2330, the Miranda-class USS Borkenau stumbled upon the wreckage of a colony just beyond the Romulan Neutral Zone. From the scans that they took, it looked as if some minor skirmish had been fought between Romulan vessels. There was nothing there to indicate that there were any Klingon or Federation vessels involved. The curiosity was that there was no indication of a Romulan colony on the planet in question before the wreckage was found, but the Captain of the Borkenau didn't bother to question it. The ship was far too close to the neutral zone, in her opinion, and wanted nothing more than to make enough scans to satisfy Starfleet and then be on her way, saving the questions for a larger, more equipped vessel. However, their initial scans found four survivors. Three Romulan's, fatally wounded, and one infant suffering major plasma burns. It was the first time any Federation let alone Starfleet Officer had seen a Reman infant. Regardless of the dangers, Captain Hall took the survivors in, finished their scans and made all due speed to the nearest Starbase.

The resident physician, Doctor Thora sh'Dilz, was unable to save the three Romulan survivors but was able to preserve the life of the infant through an incredibly daring (and delicate) transporter-based surgery similar to those used on patients whose children are born premature. It was far from perfect, or from her core competency, but she completed the task and saved the child's life. With the infant's life no longer threatened, she treated his burns and otherwise returned the young Reman to what she considered perfect health (considering their lack of knowledge on Reman physiology, it was a best guess, turns out she was dead on).

Doctor sh'Dilz took pity on the child, not having any family and longing for one of her own, she took him in despite the pleadings of her Captain who begged for her to return the infant boy over to Starfleet. But she knew the laws of the Federation and of Starfleet, and with her sponsorship and considering the child's infancy, Starfleet allowed her to retain the stewardship of the boy but she paid for it with her career. She was ordered back to Earth, to Starfleet Medical so that the child's development could be watched closely by the Federation and Starfleet so that they could learn all they could about the Remans, who were and still remain a mystery to Starfleet.

Aside from being Reman and being watched constantly by Doctors, Counselors and other Starfleet/Federation types, Xoldun had a typical Federation upbringing in San Francisco. He quickly learned to embrace the fact that he was different and use that aspect to make new friends and broaden his own horizons. The children, for their part, included him as one of their own despite his differences, giving the young boy the chance to grow up just like any other Federation citizen, an honor that sh'Dilz cashed in every chip to gain for him. Since he was so young when he was found and had been in the care of Starfleet and sh'Dilz, the Federation granted it although somewhat reluctantly.

Without recommendation by his mother, and actually with a healthy amount of skepticism from the Andorian shen, Xoldun applied for Starfleet Academy. His mother sponsored him, though she adamantly insisted he be aware that the odds of his admission were slim and that she would be proud of him as a son no matter if he made it into the illustrious academy or not. She was proven wrong when he was admitted regardless of his heritage - a testament to the ideals of Starfleet and the Federation (and in no small part to an acquaintance of the family who pulled a few well-hidden strings).

Despite his mother's original thoughts, Starfleet Academy turned out to be a brilliant success for the young Reman and he was welcomed into the fold with open arms, though there was the omnipresent discomfort at being in close proximity with a Reman. It was something he had long ago learned to embrace and used it to make friends and disarm those who would lurk in the corners watching him. As a result he made quite a few friendships that would last his and their careers.

With Starfleet Academy behind him, Xoldun took his place among the Fleet, starting his career on the USS Tréville as a Science Officer who also took a regular duty shift in Security. Xoldun graduated the Academy with a focus in Science and a minor in Security, but the Captain felt he was duly suited to the latter task simply as a function of his appearance and physique - the fact that he had a minor was just a bonus. Despite his youth, he was regularly picked by the Captain to accompany them on away missions and began to cut his teeth in the Security Department. Captain Tuval preferred the young Reman because he could accomplish the Science tasks and the Security one's simultaneously, leaving him room to bring more specialized crew if needed. On that note, Xoldun continued his career with Starfleet, moving upward through the ranks and through a few transfers. He was a valued member of every crew, but no more so than any other Officer. He worked hard, played hard and enjoyed his time in the service - until the Dominion Wars.

For the better part of forty years Xoldun had been in the company of the Federation species. He had never once seen another Reman, talked to another Reman or allowed himself to think that he'd ever do so. He'd simply gone on with his life the way he saw fit to do so. The Dominion Wars changed that. For the first time in his life, Xoldun found himself face to face with his own kind. It was on the USS Leonidas, during the battle of Chin'toka, that Xoldun met his first Reman. The meeting was... interesting to say the least.

Fresh from the battlefield, like Xoldun was, were surprised to see one of their own in a Starfleet uniform and quickly regarded him with some measure of disgust. All except their leader, Colonel Bakrigal. He saw in Xoldun something that the others didn't and despite their difference in sides, he regarded Xoldun as an equal and for their part they became friends of a sort. The Romulan's with them, however, were not so accepting and put an inordinate amount of pressure on the Starfleet brass in the area to know where Xoldun had come from and how they'd managed to turn one of their Reman soldiers into their service. The Captain of the Leonidas went up to bat for Xoldun, and though the young Reman was taken out of site of the Romulan's, he maintained his friendship with Bakrigal for the duration of his time on the ship.

Xoldun continued to serve with distinction throughout the war, and though he received more than a few plasma burns and a lasting scar on his left thigh, he emerged relatively unscathed - at least physically. The fact that his Reman brothers dismissed him so quickly weighed heavily on him, but he was making progress in moving past that.

Taking a series of transfers and step-ups in responsibility, Xoldun finally found himself in a place that he never truly expected to be - being offered a command in Starfleet. It was joy beyond joys to the one who had literally defied the odds to get where he was. He was proud to be considered, humble to be considered and though he thoughtfully considered refusing the offer, in the end he couldn't turn down a brand new vessel. His vessel. His Command. Captain Xoldun.
