| Hobbies & Interests | Although it wasn’t her first choice, Izatti did fall in love with archeology; although now she prefers studying cultures that are non-terrestrial. She’ll often recreate ongoing dig sites on the holodeck so she can study the newest artifacts. When not doing that, she enjoys holo-programs, particular with her husband, Iskander. Together they also rock climb and canoe. |
| Personal History | Izatti grew up in Northern Sumatra along the shores of Lake Toba. Her father, Hasan a sculpture, was a constant presence in her and her two older brothers, Abri and Gaiman, and younger sister, Nurhajizah. Her mother, a materials engineer working at the Daystrom Institute, was often off planet at the Utopia Planitia Yards. A half dozen languages were spoken in her home province and she showed a particular interest in learning them all, picking them up quickly. Izatti knew at an early age that she wanted to study linguistics and xenolinguistics, and began to dream of a career in Starfleet. The dream seemed to die early when Izatti was fourteen. The Mars Attack killed her mother and her in his grief, her father decided to keep his children safe as possible. Her siblings were more than happy: they’d planned to go into the arts like their father. Izatti, already mourning her mother, tried to move on from her dream. In college, she did study linguistics, but paired it with archeology. Not only stuck on Earth, she seemed stuck in her region of Earth. After failing to find a job on any other continent, Izatti joined a small staff at the University of Indonesia. Although they traveled often to dig sites in Asia, she chafed at having to return her childhood home where she still lived. Her life changed after a chance meeting at a gathering of families who lost loved ones in the Mars Attack. Paired in a group of twenty-somethings who lost parents, Izatti met Iskander. The introverted Izatti was immediately drawn to the extrovert Iskander, a warm, funny, and sometimes oblivious man who worked for the Federation News Network. They bonded over shared loss and unfulfilled lives, fell in love, and married within the year. He encouraged her to follow her dream, even if it meant estrangement from her father. Life was too short. Finding the courage, Izatti told her father that she was entering a Starfleet program for college graduates. Although he didn’t disown her, Hasan fell into a funk as if she’d died already. Still, she followed through with her plans. Iskander and she graduated from the program and were commissioned in 2397. |
