OVERVIEW OOC
Happy New Year Everyone! We took off making sim level reports for the holidays, so this will be a combined November & December update to catch us up.

Our activity over Nov/Dec reflects both a holiday activity lull and a reduction in our crew, but taking that into account, the post numbers remained very respectable, nonetheless, rounding off a ‘breakout’ year for Obsidian Command of which we can all appreciate looking back over. As always, this is a wonderful game to read and participate in, and we’re set up for a similarly enjoyable 2024!

CREW UPDATE
We had one player removed for inactivity/ lack of response in November (Aaron/ Sikan), and one resigned for personal availability reasons in December (Zach/ Johnson). Players in good standing who have had to leave for personal life reasons are of course always welcome to reapply in the future if their situation allows!

Also having an impact on our sim’s activity and interaction, please note our typically very involved CMC (Polar/ HaiRoa & Steiner) has been out of contact and there is no clear word on when to expect him back, so we’ve determined to set him on ELOA for a while, in hopes we will hear from him.

With all that in mind, the above roster is current.

RECRUITMENT
Accepting applications!

We issued a recruitment ad for Science personnel in August.
In September we put out a general ad with categorical listing for departments.
We issued an October ad for Engineering personnel.
And we took a break on admin work for the holidays, but intend to formulate a new ad campaign to run.

If you know someone you love to write with is looking for a new game to try, please do invite them to apply.

Key Roles Available:

~Chief Security Officer - (LtCmdr or Senior Non-Com)
~Chief Engineer (LtCmdr or Senior Non-Com)
~Chief Science Officer (LtCmdr or Senior Non-com)
~Chief Support Craft Pilot (Lt-LtCmdr or Senior Non-Com)
~Many varied specialists in multiple departments
~Civilians - all sorts
~And possibly unique, balanced character concept pitches

If a prospective player has some questions about applying, please do not hesitate to join us in our discord and ask away!

GENERAL STORY SUMMARIES (IC)
November and December activity was mostly surrounding various character development and the establishment of a conference to consider how and to what extent aid might or might not be sent to the planet Korix. For all the juicy details, please read the short summaries:

FLYING SOLO CHALLENGE
As the holidays had us somewhat downshifted from our high levels of activity, we put the two months together to give the numbers a chance to grow. While I had a bit of a long winded solo that boosted my numbers, Spiral posted a very respectable amount and we saw Sara and Tara light up the board too! Well done.

Combined Nov & Dec Solo word counts:
Nikki 10,298 (4 posts)
Spiral 7,034 (5 posts)
Sara 1,499 (1 post)
Tara 1,351 (2 posts)

Total solo word count (Nov & Dec): 20,182

ACTIVITY HIGHLIGHTS
Activity Highlight: Tara - She leaned into introducing Oly (aka Sebastian Van Der Laar), as he investigates one Aiden Dhow, a man with a dark, Orion Syndicate connected past under the alias of Winston Sawyl… Oly discovers some of Dhow’s photography work in a gallery. Dhow, meanwhile, handles the decision of the elders in Itonia, as his photography has created an unexpected stir with the locals, too. Oly seems to be confronted with mixed messages from his higher ups who apparently have sent him on a mission only to discourage him from devoting himself to actually tracking down his mark. The plot thickens.

Activity Highlight: Sara - As she committed Dr. Wagner to the difficult case of Ibis Xeri’s medical condition surrounding her long lost telepathy. Especially for the detailed contemplative post as Wagner considers the angles. Peppered in are moments of the doctor considering her own present life situation, forming a relatable stream of consciousness.

Activity Highlight: Markus - Particularly for the Testimonies of Hawthorne and Parnell during the conference concerning Korix and the Pyrryx threat. These testimonies serve to establish a pattern of history and connection through the Ninth Fleet that gives this multi-mission thread gravity and makes it clear the conflict is not a flash in the pan situation. It also hints at deeper interests of the state conflicting with an open investigation.

Activity Highlight: David - His character Agaia plays an important role in getting Wallace’s family to settle, and brings the uniqueness of her el Aurian perspective to the scene. David also contributed to the story direction moving the Conference with the Korinn further, to set up the coming conflicts in our Mission. Wallace’s testimony and the recordings from the last moments of the USS Sunrise were plainly given, providing a gut wrench as the reader watched the effect the recounting had on Wallace.

Activity Highlight: Spiral - Continues to be a leader in solo writing around her primary character of Brek. Endlessly fun, Brek gets into social conundrums on the regular, lately between Romulan Senator Thitur, his Grandmother Ara, the Artist Krecka, and the young up and coming artist Kyrill. Spiral also has contributed regularly to plot items via her own unique NPCs specially suited for the roles in diplomacy and science, helping to add context and meaning and stitch together our sim’s stories.

AWARDS

Sara/ Dr. Wagner
Wordsmith Medal for narrative voice
For Dr Wagner’s dedication to finding a solution to Xeri’s loss of telepathy and the details she gives, through her inner voice, on neuroplasticity. Post reference: “Lacking Efficiency of Data”

Nikki /Xeri & David/ Wallace
Sim Feature Post: “Better to Give”
An enjoyable read, in the spirit of the festive season, where we are reminded that it is better to give than to receive. A heart-warming notion which is illustrated with a family reunion where the gifts that are given have been selected with great care.

Nikki/ Zahn & Markus/ DeHavilland
The Chorus Medal
For a great post which, on top of describing a ruthless enemy, also serves as a reminder that politics is a complex and nuanced field, and that even in the most dangerous of situations, the deep state is likely to show its face. Reference Post: Testimonies: Parnell & the USS De Grasse

Spiral/Brek
Limited Issue Award: The Cup of Tea Ribbon
Because Spiral's writing is our cup of tea! This award has been on my heart to give you ever since Sep told me that he looks forward to reading your posts when they hit the list and he knows it'll be worth fixing a cup of tea to enjoy them with.

THANKS!
Once more, my gratitude to Spiral for her assistance with Summaries, Quotes, and Awards!

…Especially this month when I was tempted to be lazy and do very little with it. Spiral has put some wind in my administrative assistant sails by doing so much to feature and recognize posts and players and help to remind me that we really did still shine, even over a busy holiday season!

Thank you to everyone who has made posts and contributions between your other life and work commitments these past couple of months. Writing together with you all is truly a gift in my life. ~nikki
