Asks, great and small

Mission: M1 - Emergence
Location: Caelian
Timeline: MD04
1244 words - 2.5 OF Standard Post Measure

Calliope had never seen the inside of a Vesta class ship before. She tried not to gawk like a tourist at the fresh interiors and sleek access terminals. Even the lighting had a slightly cooler temperature to it which made her senses feel more alert. someone had done their research on every little thing and the whole boat was the epitome of the Fleet's advancements, down to the fiddlydits. Not just the biggest rocket they could strap onto a hull. After working on a re-re-fitted Olympia class as her last assignment, it wasn't too difficult to sparkle her eyes. Calliope reached out to brush her fingers on an information terminal in the passage, but before she touched anything, it sensed her movement and sprang to life with holographic menus and guest directions, along with a small instant log in that had picked up on her badge. A set of holographic rings circled her fingertips to demonstrate her motions along all three axes in the menu.

She moved intuitively and found it was also tracking her eye movement and when she selected the directions to the Quartermaster's office, it displayed a visual of the path and a series of lighted breadcrumbs on the corridor wall strip, color coded for her to track her way.

Calliope looked away and the display immediately receded.

The Quartermaster's door was left open and Calliope could hear her talking to someone already, as if they were in a meeting, going over some matters point-by-point.

"The trouble is those bio gels lose nineteen percent efficiency every time they're transported. They have a microbial strain that goes into die-off on re-composition. So they can't be site to site transferred. We'll need to pack them and hover cart the crates over one by one."

Artem sighed, "Yes well the pay off for operational speed compared to the old isolinear chips is worth it, besides we have enough heavy lift capability to make it work, not to mention manpower. It should give Command's processors a good boost in power and get the main computer up and running faster, its a total rebuild as is so might as well go all in. At least that's what Henry told me." He finished with a shrug.

Captain Artem Horatio stood arms crossed staring at the wall display infront of him with the details of all the supplies that needed to be transferred to the Starbase. It was a lot, but nothing that couldnt be worked through, it just bugged him this duty had been assigned to him. He was Henry's tactical mind, not the logisitical one that the Admiral possessed for these kind of details. Alas he was busy coordinating the Engineering Corps team deployments onto the starbase and thus the duty had fallen to him. "Someone told me a group of Marines would be arriving soon from Falkirk anyways, we can request some assistance from them for more manpower in transporting the delicate components."

"Then it's settled. I 'll have them packed."

Calliope peeked her head further in to see the Quartermaster was a dark skinned Bajoran woman, her hair tied loosely and just escaping at the fringes, which lent to a visual of someone who was balancing a lot of different demands at once. "Chief Vella?" She looked to the officer and deduced from his rank that he was the XO aboard. "Captain Horatio?"

"That would be me." Artem said turning his head to look at whomever had just spoken to him. A frizzy haired Orion stared back at him from the doorway. Arching an eyebrow he continued, "What can I do for you?"

"It's a pleasure meeting you. I'm Commander Calliope Zahn, Executive Officer of Obsidian Command," she hesitated for a moment before she stepped entirely into the office with them.

"Ah, well then." Artem said extending a hand for the Commander to take, "Welcome aboard the Caelian. What brings you to our fine ship today?"

"If it were for no other reason then to see some state of the art design in person, that would be enough!" Calliope said, freshly impressed. After shaking his hand she moved on to the Quartermaster, "I also wanted to thank you for kind consideration in preparing the care packages to make our quarters livable in the interim, Chief Vella. It was one less thing to have to think about after a long day of acclimating to the extensive repair situation at hand."

"You're Welcome, Commander." Vella said, simply. "It's my job to make sure everything goes smoothly, and we assemble them easily enough. I don't imagine you just came to say thanks, though." She pointed to Calliope's padd in hand.

"Hardly. And you're going to see plenty more needy requests from us." Calliope extended the padd to Vella. "So this is a list of assembly parts for replacing the blown out power grid. You can see it updating live as the damage teams are going through the diagnostics. The needed parts should be replicated and delivered to the associated junctions in each work order."

Vella chewed the inside of her lip. "You want these separately job batched? You don't want to wait for the complete diagnostic and have it all replicated at once?"

"Right, yes kitted out. Specific to each individual work order. It's different for other systems like shields and sensors, but at least so far as the power grid is concerned, we'll get the job done faster if it's broken up and worked on in parts while other parts are still under evaluation. We have to work this way, really."

"Usually we just do parts by number and have them sent to the receiving crib for the parts management team of the other ship or colony or whatever to handle... You're cutting out steps."

"Yes, exactly." Calliope laughed lightly. "If we had the technology for you to beam them into complete installation, we'd be doing that."

Vella considered how she might automate that process. "I guess once a replication spec is loaded for a part, it can be recalled. Then it's just a matter of different selection amounts. Completed repair sets can be directly beamed in." She held up one of the damaged packs she had been evaluating. "As long as they aren't as finicky as these bio gels."

"Wonderful! We'd like to get the first batches into the junctions in the next couple of hours. The teams will be assembled and on each of their sites very shortly." Calliope loved seeing the various parts she had been working on concerning supply and man power about to come together for results.

"I'd better get right on this, then."

As Vella excused herself from the office with a nod toward her XO, Calliope cleared her throat. "So, Captain Horatio. I'm supposed to ask you a favor for the OC crew. Showers. The captain asked me to look into this creature comfort. Quarters are fine for sleeping, but while the power is out hygiene is sorely lacking. If your ship has anything like training or gym facilities with hydro or sonic showering, I'd like to schedule crew to have the opportunity to refresh."

Calliope walked along the corridor with Captain Horatio as they worked out the general idea. All the while she was still stunned by the sleek technology she was surrounded by. Maybe, if she was lucky, she could manage to get a look at the bridge of one of these Slipstreamers....
