Prep time.

Posted on 28 Feb 2023 @ 11:23pm by Lieutenant JG Hannah Wagner & Ensign Amelia "Mia" Estasi

Mission: M3 - Into the Deep
Location: Sickbay.
734 words - 1.5 OF Standard Post Measure

Hannah's practiced eye swept over the shelves which were organized to within a millimeter of each wall. Every dust-mote had it's own requisition ID, and it was clear that she'd catalogued those too. The shelves had colored lines now that seemed to be programmed in.

"Lord and Lady, Mia...what HAVE you been doing?"

"What I do best ma'am. Disaster prep."

"I might have thought that they were joking about that."

"Yeeaaah, not so much." A giggle escaped Mia, but it held a note of tension in it. "Childhood trauma and PTSD. This is how it comes out, and well...I clean, because it makes me saner when I do." Mia offered a shrug and a smile. It was clear from the tone she'd used that she not only wasn't kidding, but that she used the coping mechanisms she'd gained as a child to her betterment. She'd felt the delicate touch of the counselors in many a way when she'd been in the academy. Now, well...Mia was sure they followed her progress with her self. She was no longer being sent for mandatory meetings, and the doctor couldn't help but be pleased with THAT development.

Hannah couldn't help but be impressed at what the Ensign had done in a few days. It would have taken her months to clean and organize everything to this degree, if she even could do it at all. To get that level of organization in so short a time, AND still be able to manage patients and care afterward was boggling. Mouth still slightly agape she turned in a slow circle, trying to absorb everything that she'd done. A white glove wouldn't get a single iota of dust, and...everything was labelled neatly. "I assume that you have a catalogue and diagrams to go along with all of this?"

"Of course ma'am." Another giggle, this one more relaxed and sure of herself. Asking about her work was a sure fire way of relaxing the young woman. "I tend to talk as I organize, so I set the computer to record. If it does that, I get a running commentary on just where I put everything, and the why methodology of the day. It's pretty consistent but not 100% reliable. Hence...the commentary."

"Written copy?"

Mia handed a PADD to Hannah, that Hannah immediately activated with her thumb. The scrolling began obediently, and after a moment, she nodded appreciatively.

"You've prepped enough for years of battle, and future me will appreciate it when everything goes to hell in a hand asked, but right now...you need to get some rest and relaxation time. "

"But, I've got the shift to finish..."

"Go chill out for a while Mia. I'll man the fort.".

"Yes m-ma'am." It seemed that Mia didn't need to be told twice to get herself out of sickbay. She left with an alacrity that left Hannah chuckling to herself.

Settling down into the chair, she began to read the copy of the manifest that Mia had been doing. It was organized first by category of supply, Cardiac, Respiratory, GI, Nervous, Endocrine, Wound Care, Osteo, Pharmacology, Replicatables... The list was impressive, just by itself. Each category had a color code, which would correspond to a secondary area if the primary area did not have the supply in question. The secondary area would then bear a stripe on the door, telling you at a glance which supplies were in it. The first 'area' contained the supplies that they used the most frequently, with those things they used up in basins at eye level. However if you didn't want to look, and you verbalized the supply you needed the computer could then tell you where it was specifically, from her manifest.

"Absolutely brilliant. I want to do the whole of sickbay like this when we get back. Hopefully, Dr. Mazur won't object too strenuously. " She pinched the bridge of her nose, thinking about that. Pigs could fly too if you threw them hard enough, but she had to do her due diligence. Then, she added a note to the manifest and labeling. That way, Mazur would review it (she hoped), and they could implement it onboard the Station (again she hoped).

It's likely she won't approve it just due to pure contrariness, but this is very astute and hopefully pregnancy brain doesn't mean that she fails to recognize the usefulness.
